Love, by its nature, is a resemblance to God, insofar as this is humanly possible. In its activity it is inebriation of the soul. Its distinctive character is to be a fountain of faith, an abyss of patience, a sea of humility. Lucky the man who loves and longs for God as a smitten lover does for his beloved... Someone truly in love keeps before his mind's eye the face of the beloved and embraces it there tenderly. Even during sleep the longing continues unappeased, and he murmurs to his beloved. That is how it is for the body. And that is how it is for the spirit. A man wounded by love had this to say about himself -- and it really amazes me -- "I sleep (because nature commands this) but my heart is awake (because of the abundance of my love)" (Song of Songs 5:2). On the fourth Sunday of lent, the Church reminds the fasting faithful of the weaknesses of the flesh, urging them to “watch and pray.” Amidst our temptations and difficulties we have to exert great spiritual force so as to rise out of transitoriness and decay. As long as we behave unfeelingly and passively, we do not conquer. But our soul wishes to work, to stretch out, to rise above the mire, to overcome the animal nature in man and transfigure man. We have to pray in such a way that our prayer will be a moral exertion, that we will seriously and determinedly want to achieve a more beautiful, purer, stronger frame of mind.
This Sunday is also dedicated to St. John Climacus (525-606 A.D.) the saintly abbot of the monastery on Mt. Sanai and author of The Ladder of Divine Ascent. Although his feast falls on March 30 the custom of celebrating it on the fourth Sunday of Lent was introduced because his book was read in monasteries at this time. His book, The Ladder of Divine Ascent, consists of 30 steps towards the spiritual perfection of man, each step representing one year in the life of Christ. It is a fundamental book for religious, describing the perfect unity of man with God and giving directions to those who would follow the words of our Lord: “Be perfect as your heavenly Father is perfect,” Basil Shereghy

Saturday, March 27th at St. Josaphat’s Parish Hall.

Easter Paska and Babka Sale:
Paska/Babka sales at St. Josaphat’s Parish Hall on Saturday, March 20th
and Saturday, March 27th between 2:30 – 5:00 pm only.
UCWLC will also be selling Paska/Babka on Sunday March 21st
in the church basement before the 10:00 Liturgy, and on Sunday, March
28th after each Divine Liturgy while quantities last.

Ignite Ukrainian Catholic Young Adults
invites all 18-35 out for our next event on Friday March 19 at 7:30 pm at
Dormition of the Most Holy Mother of God Parish (15608 -104 Avenue). Fr.
Hupalo will lead the evening with a focus on Repentance & Reconciliation.
There will also be an opportunity for confessions. Following, we will gather
in the church basement for a game's night. So bring a favourite game (or
two)

Turgeon, invite you to their concert: “Since the Art Song” on Monday, April
19 at 8 p.m. at the Winspear Centre, with special guest, international opera
star, Pavlo Hunka (bass-baritone), and Dnipro. Tickets are available at the
Winspear Centre Box Office (780) 428-1414, and King’s Bookstore (780)
465-8306 ($20/$15/$5, plus service charge). Pavlo Hunka will also
join our Cathedral Choir as a soloist at the
10 a.m. Divine Liturgy on April
