On the fifth Sunday, the Church encourages and strengthens the faithful with the reminder that hey have already passed the great part of Lent. The end is at hand. Let us persevere until the end. Let us work now, “while it is day.” Procrastination is the thief of time. Let us use our time well for the benefit of our soul. Let us occupy ourselves with love and with a humble attention to our own self and our tasks, conscious of God and our difficulties. Let us do this not feverishly but diligently. Fever and excitement harass, but diligence comforts us.
On this Sunday, the Church recalls the example of a great penitent, Mary of Egypt (c. 450 A.D.). And Egyptian by birth, Mary was a frivolous actress and lived in Alexandria, leading a sinful life. After her conversion she went into the desert neat the river Jordan where she spent the remainder of her life doing penance for her sins. She reached a high degree of perfection and became a model for all penitent sinners. The Church singles her out as an example, showing that we too can become saints in spite of our past sins and human weaknesses. The troparion expresses this very thought: “In you, O Mother, was accurately preserved the divine image. Accepting the cross and following Christ, you have thought us by your life to despise the flesh because it is mortal and to take care of the soul, which is immortal. Basil Shereghy

Не наклони серця мого до словес лукавства, щоб вигадувати приводи для гріхів

* До уваги батьків – У двох перших тижнях місяця липня при нашій Кетедрі св. Йосафата буде проводитися денний дитячий табір. Цього року діти матимуть чудову нагоду “подорожувати разом з біблійним Йосифом” до Єгипту. Запрошуємо дітей віком від 3 до 8 років весело та цікаво провести час в іграх, з піснями, ручними роботами та іншими цікавими заняттями. Let my prayer arise like incense before You, and the lifting up of my hands, like an evening sacrifice.
O Lord, I have cried out to You: hear me. Listen to my voice, when I call upon You.
O Lord, set a guard before my mounth, and set a seal on the door of my lips.
Let not my heart be inclined to evil, nor make excuses for the sins I commit.

Mark your calendar, Parents! The first two weeks of July, St Josaphat
Cathedral once again offers Children Summer Day Camp.
This time children will take "a trip" to Egypt with Joseph. Children of the
ages 3 to 8 are the most welcome to share Joseph's adventurous journey to
Egypt through games, songs, crafts and lots more. Summer Day Camp
takes place July
5-16, 2010 in our Church Auditorium, M-F, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m.

UCYC Spring Retreat,
May 7-9. A.S.K. Ask, Seek, Knock. Retreat for grade 9 to young adults at St.
Stephen’s church in Calgary.
