PALM SUNDAY

ACCORDING TO THE

BYZANTINE RITE TRADITION

     The triumphant entry of Jesus into the city of Jerusalem before His passion, was celebrated with particular solemnity since the first centuries of Christianity. In the Byzantine Rite it is considered to this day one of the twelve Major Feasts of the liturgical year. It is always celebrated on the Sunday before Easter with the blessing of branches. In liturgical books the feast is referred to as Palm Sunday or Vaj Sunday (Gr. balon—palm branch) for, on that Sunday, palm-branches were blessed and distributed to the faithful. Popularly it was also called Willow Sunday (Verbna Ned’ilja) because in Europe, pussy-willows were blessed instead of palms. It is also known as Flower Sunday (Kvitna Nedilja) since in and near Constantinople they used to distribute early spring flowers, such as branches of lilac or elder, to the faithful.

* Cпільне Cвячене: Запрошуємо у неділю 11-го квітня після двомовної   Бож. Літургії о 10:00год. до нашої парафіяльної залі. Квитки ви можете купити у захристії після недільних Літургій, і також в канцелярії.
Ціна - дорослі: $16, діти 7-12: $8, діти  до 6 років: $0. Просимо купити квитки наперед. Дякуємо!

We   would like to congratulateour newly elected Parish Pastoral Council under the leadership of  Mr. Ed Kostyshyn

We thank them ALL  for their good will!

Last March 25^th we celebrated the Feast of Annunciation.

The Virgin Mary, Theotokos, teaches us with her example, how we must accept God’s will.

Today is Palm Sunday.

Jesus the Messiah is entering the gates of Jerusalem,

so we would be witnesses of His great love for us in   Redemption of all of us!

*IMPORTANT NEWS: A year ago the Parish Pastoral Council established a Maintenance/Renovation Fund and by now more than $15,000.00 were donated by our Parishioners.The Parish Pastoral Council made the recommendation to change the name to   “St. Josaphat Preservation Fund” and the fund would be ear marked for larger projects which would preserve our Cathedral and Rectory buildings.

* Mark your calendar, Parents!  The first two weeks of July, St Josaphat Cathedral once again offers Children Summer Day Camp.  This time children will take "a trip" to Egypt with Joseph. Children of the ages 3 to 8 are the most welcome to share Joseph's adventurous journey to Egypt through games, songs, crafts and lots more. Summer Day Camp takes place July 5-16, 2010 in our Church Auditorium, M-F, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m.                                                              To register, call Parish Office @ (780) 422 3181.
