The inviolability of the person which is a reflection of the absolute inviolability of God, finds its primary and fundamental expression in the inviolability of human life. Above all, the common outcry, which is justly made on behalf of human rights-for example, the right to health, to home, to work, to family, to culture- is false and illusory if the right to life, the most basic and fundamental right and the condition for all other personal rights, is not defended with maximum determination. It is impossible to further the common good without acknowledging and defending the right to life, upon which all the other inalienable rights of individuals are founded and from which they develop. A society lacks solid foundations when, on the one hand, it asserts values such as the dignity of the person, justice and peace, but then, on the other hand, radically acts to the contrary by allowing or tolerating a variety of ways in which human life is devalued and violated, especially where it is weak or marginalized. Only respect for life can be the foundation and guarantee of the most precious and essential goods of society, such as democracy and peace. Pope + John Paul II 1995

Святкування Дня Матері має свою історію. У 1910 році у штаті Філадельфія
вперше організували День Матері. А в 1914 на клопотання Анни Джервіс
(вона рано втратила матір і запропонувала, щоб люди разом вшановували
і матір-неньку, і матір-Землю, і Матір Божу) Конгрес США встановив нове
державне свято. Серед української громади День Матері вперше влаштував Союз українок Канади в 1928 році. Для українців це свято має триєдиний сенс: поклоніння Матері-Богородиці, яку наш народ вважає заступницею; вшанування Матері-Вітчизни і земної Матері, яка дає життя. The British have long celebrated the fourth Sunday in Lent as a day to honor Mothers. Other countries and faiths had different ways of honoring Mothers. But it took a young American woman to create a special day that is celebrated around the world. Miss Anna Jarvis, from West Virginia in the United States came up with the idea of honoring all Mother's on the second Sunday in May. The first Mother's Day event was held in 1908. It was a religious service (her Mother had taught Sunday School for 20 years). As part of the service, each Mother was given a carnation which was her Mother's favorite flower. In 1914, the US President designated the second Sunday in May as Mother's Day.
