Sunday of the Holy Fathers of the First Ecumenical Council of Nicea
On this Sunday, the Church celebrates the Fathers who came to Nicea in 325 A.D. for the first Ecumenical Council and pro-claimed the Catholic Doctrine concerning the Holy Trinity. The Council was convened by the 1st Christian Emperor Constantine the Great, with the sanction of Pope Sylvester I. 318 Bishops took part in this Council which condemned the heresy of Arius, Archpriest of Alexandria. Arius denied that Christ was really and truly God. The Council proclaimed that Jesus is true God, consubstantial with the Father.
The Council defined the true Catholic teaching in a formula which was later expanded into the Nicean Creed. Consequently, the Fathers of the Council all agreed that the Blessed Virgin Mary is truly the Mother of God. At the conclusion of the Council the Fathers, escorted by the whole population of Nicea, made a procession in the evening, bearing torches and singing, and proclaiming that Mary is truly the Mother of God. Among the prominent Fathers of the Council was St. Basil the Great. The church commemorates these valiant defenders of the faith to remind her of their duty to defend their faith against any possible attack, and to live according to its maxims, principles and teachings that our Lord has handed down to us.

* Просимо памятати, що 6-го червня ми будемо мати Парафіяльний пікнік на Озері Вобман. Cв. Літургія розпочнеться об 11.00год.; потім буде барбекю, опісля будемо мати різні ігри. Запрошуємо вас приїжджати разом з вашими родинами. Для тих, що хотіли б поїхати автобусом від Катедри просимо записатись у Парафіяльній канцелярії 780-422-3181. Минулого року ми заплатили за автобус $420.00.

Владики Кир Давида у середу, 2-ого червня, о 7:30 зранку до нашої Парафіяльної домівки (at St. Josaphat Parish Hall, 9637 108 Ave). Квитки можна придбати у Єпархіальній канцелярії. Ціна - $20.00 за особу. Останній термін придбання квитків - 26 травня. Не будемо продавати квитків при дверях.

Dear Parishioners!
Today we commemorate the Fathers of the First Council of Nicea,
who clarified and handed down to us many of the precious truths
of the faith about our Lord
and Savior Jesus Christ.
Most important of these is the affirmation that Jesus is God, one in being with the Father.
May this and all the teachings of these Fathers strengthen our faith
and give us boldness to approach our Lord with confidence in prayer.
