The Sunday of the Paralytic
In the temple near Jerusalem there was a certain pool called in Hebrew Bethsaida. Here the Jewish priests washed the animals designated for sacrifices. This pool, however, also had a miraculous quality. Once a year an angel was said to descend from heaven and move the waters. The first to enter the pool after this “troubling of waters” was healed of his infirmities. It happened that as Jesus was passing by this pool, He saw a man but unable to reach the pool in time. Instead, our Lord Himself made him well.
Every sinner can be spiritually healed if he turns with faith and confidence to the risen Christ. We cannot complain that we have no man who would carry us to the miraculous pool. Christ is our healer. It is He who helps us to rise, who heals us, who speaks the saving words and gives us strength. A man who wishes to rise need not wait for the “troubling of the waters” for new intellectual ideas, for moments of inspiration, or for some special burst of enthusiasm. The risen Christ is here, and with Him he can rise whenever he sincerely wishes to

Today we dedicate the Sunday to the paralytic. Today we are able
To see the weaknesses of our bodies that often are very painful!
Our diseases are painful also in the moments of our sinful lives
and in the unwise actions that destroy
our eternal soul.
May we also take care of our soul and
may we open ourselves to God’s sympathy to us.
By doing God’s will we will not be victims of any weaknesses.
Our bodily diseases we are unable to control, but our spiritual insecurities
We must control and prohibit
our bodies to be out of control.
Try to do what pleases God
and do not go against God’s will.
Christ is risen!

* ATTENTION! The Edmonton Eparchy will be welcoming the Head and Father of our Ukrainian Catholic Church, Patriarch Sviatoslav, from June 1-11. The Patriarch and our Bishop will be celebrating the Divine Liturgy on June 10th at 8:30 a.m, NOT AS we have stated earlier at 7:45 a.m. Brunch will follow at our hall. Tickets are: adults $25.00, youth 12 and under $15.00. We hope to hold the tickets for OUR PARISHIONERS ‘til May 1st.
* The Cathedral is getting ready to welcome His Beatitude Patriarch Sviatoslav on June 10, 2012! We would like to make the cathedral as clean and beautiful as possible for this auspicious occasion and so we are asking for donation to help cover the costs, such as for flowers, the cleaning of the main chandelier, and other expenses. Please help us to make the Patriarch’s visit a memory to be cherished for many years!
* Please be advised that this week, because the clergy are away on Study Days, there will be no daily Divine Liturgy between Tuesday and Friday (May 1st – May 4th). There will still be Divine Liturgy on Monday, April 30. The parish office will be open only from 1 – 4:30 this week.

* Dear Parents, Once again, St Josaphat Cathedral is hosting Summer Day Camp for children 3-8 years old! The camp runs July 3 - 13, 2012, Mon-Fri, 9:00-3:00 (with the possibility of early drop-off and late pick-up) in the church auditorium.

Announcement to All our Parishioners
On September 1st, 2011 I asked our Most Rev. Bishop David to release me after four years from my pastoral duties at the Cathedral as of June 30th, 2012. My health for the last 13 years was deteriorating. Right Rev. William Hupalo, our Vicar General, will be taking over the Parish as of July the 1st, 2012. May I humbly thank all of you for your cooperation, positive attitude, prayerful communion, love for our Church and your deep dedication. I am very proud that for the last three years we have a permanent “PRESERVATION FUND” (by now you donated approx. $100,000.00). KEEP WATCH on it & PRESERVE! I always will remember you in my prayer, knowing that together we are a great Christian family of the Ukrainian Catholic Church. My thanks to the Lord for choosing me to be His priest among my Ukrainian people in turbulent times of 1973. It was a blessing to be ordained a priest by the Confessor of the Faith, His Beatitude Patriarch Joseph Cardinal Slipyj. Yours in Christ,

Cьогодні Неділя розслабленого.
Ми часто бачимо нашу слабість у немочах нашого тіла, що страждає від болів, які часто є дуже важкими.
Коли ми грішимо, то різними гріхами нищимо нашу душу.
Пильнуймо отже, щоб наше серце завжди було відкрите на Божу ласку та Його велике милосердя до нас.
Коли ми будемо виконувати Божу волю наша душа буде здорова.
Наші тілесні слабості ми не можемо контролювати, однак
наші душевні непевності нам потрібно пильнувати і не давати
нашому тілові
свободу виступати проти всього, що
противиться Богу!
